Federalist - Republican Essay

One proposed by Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton emphasized a strong central government and took shape in the newly minted Federalist political party. A second, stressed the importance of state governments and a comparatively weak federal government. These ideas would give birth to the democratic-Republican, or as we know them Republican Party. The leaders of this movement were Hamilton's fellow cabinet member Thomas Jefferson and fellow Virginian James Madison.
